Analysis of the match between Lazio and Genoa
From a head-to-head perspective, Genoa have clearly been one of Lazio’s favorite opponents in recent years. In the first leg this season, the capital club cruised to a 3-0 victory over Genoa, extending their winning streak against this opponent to five consecutive matches. Notably, Lazio have kept a clean sheet in all five of those games, underlining their complete dominance in both performance and results.
However, past records offer little reassurance for Lazio at the present time. The form of Maurizio Sarri’s side has been worrying, with just one win in their last seven league matches. Following a goalless draw against Lecce in the previous round, the Italian coach openly expressed his disappointment, criticizing his players for lacking motivation and fighting spirit.
Sarri even warned that if this trend continues, Lazio could be dragged into a relegation battle, despite currently sitting in the top half of the table. While Lazio are ninth, Genoa are lower in 13th place, but the visitors’ current form inspires greater confidence.
Under new head coach Daniele De Rossi, Genoa have proven to be a stubborn opponent, remaining unbeaten in all five matches played so far in 2026. In the previous round, despite trailing Bologna by two goals, they showed remarkable resilience to stage a comeback and win 3-2. Having once been deeply involved in the relegation fight, Genoa have now built a six-point cushion over the drop zone (23 points compared to 17).
Based on current form, it would not be surprising if Genoa were to leave Lazio’s ground with at least a point, especially given the hosts’ ongoing struggles to rediscover winning form.
