Analysis of the match between Everton and Manchester United
Everton’s 1-0 victory over MU at Old Trafford last November not only ended their long winless run at the “Theatre of Dreams” since December 2013, but also drew attention due to Idrissa Gueye’s red card following a clash with his own teammate Michael Keane.
It was also a special milestone for David Moyes, who previously endured an unsuccessful spell at the same stadium during his time in charge of MU in the 2013/14 season. Ironically, that victory was also the last time the Merseyside club defeated the “Red Devils” in Manchester in the Premier League.
However, Everton’s recent home form has been inconsistent. In their last 10 matches at home, they have lost five and won only three. If they manage to defeat MU once again, Everton will significantly boost their chances of qualifying for European competitions, especially as their city rivals Liverpool sit sixth in the table, just five points ahead of them.
Nevertheless, this will not be an easy task. MU have shown clear improvement since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim as head coach. The Manchester side are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run in the Premier League – a streak that actually began before Carrick officially took charge. Notably, they have won four of their last five league matches.
Level with Chelsea at the top of the recent form table over the last five rounds (before round 27), the “Red Devils” are full of confidence as they aim to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 10 matches.
