Analysis of the match between Algeria and Nigeria
Under the guidance of former Switzerland head coach Vladimir Petkovic, Algeria has re-established itself as one of Africa’s strongest and most consistent teams. Boasting numerous talented players, particularly in attack, they have remained unbeaten in 35 matches within regular 90 minutes. More importantly, the team consistently displays strong unity and the ability to overcome major challenges.
Algeria enters the quarterfinals following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over DR Congo in the Round of 16 in Rabat, thanks to a decisive late extra-time goal from Adil Boulbina. This win has boosted the team’s morale, preparing them to take on and defeat Nigeria in the AFCON 2025 quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has struggled with inconsistent form in recent years, but under coach Eric Chelle, the “Super Eagles” have shown significant improvement lately. However, internal issues persist, especially involving Victor Osimhen. Ahead of the clash with Algeria, the star striker reportedly announced he would leave the camp to return to Turkey. Previous conflicts between Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during the 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 have further complicated the situation.
It remains unclear whether Osimhen has officially left, but the situation will undoubtedly affect Nigeria’s preparations against Algeria — a side they have not beaten in their last four encounters (3 losses, 1 draw).
